Animal Advocacy

Dr. Bronner’s supports leading animal advocacy organizations and other efforts that are working to end the suffering and exploitation of animals, while advocating for a transition to healthier and more sustainable food systems. We believe everyone should be conscious of where their food comes from and empowered to eat ethically. Every year in the U.S., over nine billion farmed animals (not including fish) are confined in filthy conditions on factory farms, packed into trucks and sent to be slaughtered. Nearly all of the turkeys, cows, chickens, pigs and other farmed animals used to produce meat, eggs, and dairy products sold in the U.S. endure conditions that cause needless stress and suffering.

Dr. Bronner’s believes all animals should be treated humanely and with respect for their wellbeing. The company has contributed over $4 million to animal advocacy work since 2013.

Our grantees and partners utilize multiple strategies to reduce the suffering and exploitation of non-human animals, increase public awareness, and create lasting change.

In the last few years, they have provided strategic guidance for funders in animal welfare, published a major report on 'humanewashing—deceptive labeling to trick consumers into believing their products are humaneand in 2022 joined a consumer class action lawsuit against Whole Foods Market for selling meat marketed as “no antibiotics, ever” that was proven to have residue of a growth-promoting antibiotic and other drugs.

VINE Sanctuary

VINE Sanctuary is an LGBTQ-led organization that serves not just as a refuge for animals rescued from industrial farming as well as other abusive practices, but also as an education center and advocate for animal rights. VINE stands for “Veganism is the Next Evolution” AND “Veganism Is Not Enough,” pointing to their holistic approach and solidarity with all movements to minimize suffering and environmental impact.  Their goal is to undermine the social and structural causes of animal exploitation and promote a plant-based agricultural economy.

Sea Shepherd Global

The mission of Sea Shepherd Global is to protect marine wildlife and end the destruction of habitat in the world’s oceans. Since 1977, Sea Shepherd has used innovative direct action tactics to defend, conserve, and protect the delicately balanced biodiversity of our seas and enforce international conservation laws. Initially supplying soap and coconut oil for ship crews, in 2016, Dr. Bronner’s purchased a ship to be utilized on marine conservation campaigns.

Named in honor of Dr. Bronner’s founder, the M/V Emanuel Bronner originally participated in campaigns to patrol the Baltic Sea to protect the endangered harbor porpoise. The ship is currently being used in Greece to defend the habitat of the endangered monk seal in the Mediterranean. Dr. Bronner’s continues to support the work of Sea Shepherd Global and its campaigns around the world.
