Dr. Bronner’s “All-One!” News – January 2014

Soap Bottles

While Hanukkah, Winter Solstice, Christmas and New Year’s have come and gone, this is a great time to reflect on themes of rebirth and renewal: in the words of Albert Camus, it was “in the depth of winter I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.” And in the words of the Grateful Dead, “you’ve got to roll away the dew!”

Like many of you, we used the close of last year and the beginning of this one to think about what we had accomplished and to set intentions and chart our course for the year ahead. The New Year is always a chance to start fresh, and we feel more ready than ever to embark on our ambitious goals for 2014! As part of these new beginnings, we are excited to unveil a completely redesigned and streamlined Web site, featuring an improved online store that is entirely mobile-ready and a wealth of information about our ingredients and how they are sourced.

In the spirit of new beginnings, we also sat down to spell out our Mission Statement in the clearest terms yet, identifying five “Pillars of Commitment” which comprise the foundation of how we operate. Check it out here.

We’ve also almost completed our move to a brand new facility in Vista, California. Consolidating our operations under one roof will give us an excellent base from which to fight for the causes we believe in.

Cheers to a great year ahead!

New Web Site at DrBronner.com

We are very pleased to announce that we just launched a completely revamped and redesigned Dr. Bronner’s Web site, and we invite you to check it out! Our intention with the new site was to provide even more information and transparency, as well as to streamline the design, making navigation easier for our visitors. In addition, we completely updated our Web store which is now entirely mobile-ready, making it possible to easily buy our products right from your phone or tablet. Take a look at our January Monthly Specials!

One of the site’s new features that we are particularly proud of is the “Ingredients” section, where we describe and give visitors the ability to easily explore the various Fair Trade projects through which we source our ingredients from around the world.

We hope you like our new site; let us know what you think!

Mission Statement & Pillars of Commitment

Our leadership team sat down together recently and over the course of several meetings worked to spell out our Mission Statement in the clearest terms yet. Here is what we came up with:

Dr. Bronner’s is a family business committed to honoring the vision of our founder Dr. E.H. Bronner by making socially and environmentally responsible products of the highest quality, and by dedicating our profits to helping make a better world. “All-One!”

In addition, the leadership team worked to identify five “Pillars of Commitment” which build on our Mission Statement and guide exactly how we operate within our sphere of influence:

  1. Commitment to Quality: Produce the highest quality products in an ethical and environmentally sound way.
  2. Commitment to Family: Model progressive business practices.
  3. Commitment to Responsibility: Build an equitable and sustainable supply chain.
  4. Commitment to Advocacy: Fund and fight for causes we believe in.
  5. Commitment to Philanthropy: Share our profits to support all kinds of great things.

Just as we aim to be transparent regarding all our ingredients and supply chains, the publishing of our Mission Statement and “Pillars of Commitment” helps us bring a greater level of transparency to our customers.

Vista facility
New Facility & Headquarters in Vista, CA

For many years, we have been operating out of two facilities: our original plant and warehouse in Escondido, California where we manufactured our liquid soaps, and another plant and warehouse in Vista, California where we manufactured our bar soaps and balms. Maintaining these two separate locations, and constantly shuttling people and materials between them, was both costly and inconvenient. In addition, we were lacking a cohesive environment in which our whole team could operate together under one roof.

In 2013 we found a new location in Vista, CA that met all our needs with room to grow. We began the move in summer 2013 and hope to complete it this year. Moving a company our size is never easy and is an ongoing process, but we are well on our way – and we will soon be “All-One!”

Lisa Bronner: My Hand Sanitizer: Armed and Ready

We have become a society that is addicted to
hand sanitizer, so I want you to read this disclaimer: Hand sanitizer does not replace soap and water if available.  Soap and water is more effective and if it is feasible to wash with soap and water, please do so.*  However, the sanitizer is a must when my ducklings exit the grocery store where they’ve touched every part of the cart and run their hands on the check out conveyer belt and picked up a penny from the parking lot and handled the pack of ground beef we bought and then ask, “Mom, can I have a snack?”
