Dr. Bronner’s Announces All-One UK Initiative to Support Advocacy for Social Justice, Animal Rights, and Environmental Sustainability in the UK

Top-Selling Natural Soap Brand Launches Pilot Programme to Promote “Global Mission & Local Impact”

October 23, 2019

LONDON, UK – Dr. Bronner’s, the global top-selling organic and fair trade soap and body care brand, is proud to announce its new All-One UK Initiative. This programme is a local-to-the-UK branch of a new global initiative called All-One International that seeks to ensure mission-aligned advocacy is supported in the markets that Dr. Bronner’s sells its products in and is at the heart of the company’s continuing global growth and expansion. Through this initiative, at a minimum, 1% of Dr. Bronner’s sales to the UK market each year will be donated to local advocacy efforts in support of social justice, animal advocacy, and environmental sustainability. The launch of this initiative in the UK market, as well as Germany, is a pilot programme for 2019. The company plans to launch local All-One Initiatives in the majority of its international markets in 2020 following a similar mandate.

“As a companywide priority, the Dr. Bronner’s All-One International Initiative ensures our brand activism will have an impact in markets where our products are sold around the world and also will ensure that our impact is aligned with our local partners and what is relevant to them,” says Michael Bronner, President of Dr. Bronner’s. “In the UK, our distributors are deeply inspired by the extraordinary organisations we are supporting and are happy to help elevate awareness of these causes globally.”

By the end of 2019, Dr. Bronner’s All-One UK will have donated to three highly effective organisations and initiatives within the country that are aligned with the company’s core focus areas. Animal Advocacy: Compassion in World Farming; Environmental Sustainability: UK Youth Climate Coalition;  Social Justice: Emmaus.

“Dr. Bronner’s embraces an approach to its brand activism that seeks to build and strengthen movements across diverse groups with a focus on equity and inclusion,” says Cliff Moss, Managing Director of Dr. Bronner’s UK. “We are honoured to work with the company in a way that provides opportunities to connect on a deeper humanitarian level beyond the integrity of our products. We hope that people will be just as motivated to support the selected organisations as we are, especially as we head into the giving season.”

In addition to financial donations, the company has donated its soaps and other products to festivals, community and educational events, fundraisers, animal sanctuaries, and direct-action campaigns across the UK and around the world throughout the year.

One of the first official grants Dr. Bronner’s made this year under the banner of the All-One UK Initiative was a $15,000 donation to Compassion in World Farming, an organisation the company has been supporting since 2013. Compassion in World Farming was founded over 50 years ago in 1967 by a British farmer who became horrified by the development of modern, intensive factory farming. Today the organisation continues to campaign peacefully to end all factory farming practices. Their work is based on the belief that the biggest cause of animal cruelty on the planet deserves a focused, specialised approach – and as an organisation are relentlessly focused on ending factory farming. Since 2013, Dr. Bronner’s has donated over $2 million to leading animal advocacy organisations and other efforts that are working to end the suffering and exploitation of animals and are advocating for a transition to healthier and more sustainable food systems.

“We highly value Dr. Bronner’s as both an ethical brand and a partner working to end factory farming. Even more, we deeply appreciate the work they do across so many issue areas around the world – including in the UK,” says Philip Lymbery, CEO of Compassion in World Farming. “They are truly an inspiration; if only more companies worked the way they did, the world would be in a much better place.”

With the need to tackle climate change never more pressing, Dr. Bronner’s is pleased to be supporting the UK Youth Climate Coalition, a not-for-profit group of 18-29 year olds who volunteer and collaborate to mobilise and empower young people to take positive action for global climate justice. Tackling climate change at its core, they challenge the roots of social and climate injustice to create a better world for all.

“Dr. Bronner’s support means the world to us,” says Serena Bashal, International Youth NGOs Officer. “With its roots in activism, Dr. Bronner’s has an understanding of what we have to do to protect future generations. They aren’t afraid to stand up for what’s right and neither are we. With their support we look forward to making a bigger impact as we tackle climate change.”

The number of homeless in the UK is expected to double by 2041 to around 575,000. Dr. Bronner’s has been a long supporter of homeless organisations in the US and is now pleased to be supporting Emmaus in the UK. Emmaus supports people to work their way out of homelessness, providing meaningful work, training, support, and a stable home for as long as someone needs it.

“We are delighted to be partnering with Dr. Bronner’s; a company which shares Emmaus’s sustainability and environmental values and, like Emmaus, is clearly passionate about working to be able to give back,” comments, Sallie Winterbottom, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Emmaus. “Emmaus is a safe place to call home to more than 800 formerly homeless people and, with Dr. Bronner’s support, we are working to be able to increase this to 1000 people. This exciting opportunity means that together we can support more people out of homelessness and offer more empowering developmental opportunities for those who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion.”
