“Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soapbox” is an independent production that was not financed by the Bronner family or Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps in any way. However the film has moved the Bronner family to let people know about it.
“We want to share this film with our longtime customers because it answers questions they might have about who we are today and where our soaps came from, as well as the writing on the label,” says President David Bronner. “It is a nuanced portrayal of Dr. Bronner’s life, conduct and message, and how the values of Dr. Bronner live on today in our company’s ethos and practice.”

With a background in multimedia performance art and radio documentary, writer/director Sara Lamm moves the story back-and-forth between archival film footage of Dr. Bronner and recent digital video of 70-year-old son Ralph Bronner as he carries out his father’s messages of hope for a unified world.
The film features footage of Dr. Bronner, his fourth wife Gladys Bronner, late son Jim Bronner and the late Eldridge Cleaver of the Black Panthers which was shot, directed and produced by Stewart Nelsen in the early 1980’s. Current footage shot by Lamm and Andrew Nagata features son Ralph, grandsons David Bronner and Mike Bronner (President and Vice President of Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps) and daughter-in-law Trudy Bronner (CFO of the company), among others.
